What You Can Expect
Getting to know you
First things first we want to get to know you, when you arrive at the clinic you will be greeted by a friendly face in reception. Once you are settled you will be asked to complete a new patient form which will be fully explained by the reception staff, this form is simple yet provides us with enough basic information to ensure we provide you with the best care possible. On completion of this form your consultation with the Chiropractor will begin.
At this stage we will discuss everything about your main complaints gathering as much information as possible before embarking on a comprehensive physical examination including chiropractic and functional as well as orthopaedic and neurological tests. The results of this process will be analysed by the Chiropractor to determine whether chiropractic treatment can help you. If this is the case a report of the findings will be scheduled in to discuss the results and to begin your treatment, if not and further investigations or referrals to other healthcare entities are necessary then the Chiropractor will facilitate this process.
When it comes to treatment itself, even though it is second nature to us, we know that it can be a little daunting if you have never seen a chiropractor before. We always explain the results of the initial consultation and examination in detail before any treatment happens, this way you can fully understand what is going on with your body and we can outline the aims of treatment before we begin.
There are many treatment techniques and methods within chiropractic and at our clinic we utilise many different aspects to ensure we get the right combination to best aid you to a full and speedy recovery. Treatments are generally very specific focussing on the areas giving you the problems and often include spinal adjustments alongside mobilisations and soft tissue techniques.
Spinal adjustments are delivered to areas of the spine identified to be lacking in function during the initial consultation and this enables the spine to move and function more freely increasing movement and function as well as decreasing pain levels. Often during the adjustments a “click” or “pop” can be heard but this is just commonly gas moving or escaping from the within the joints. Adjustments are not typically painful and are very specific to the areas of the spine requiring attention and often provide great relief to the patient.
Soft Tissue Techniques
Alongside adjustments a wide range of soft tissue techniques are used at the clinic which allows us to target all aspects of the problem to provide a complete recovery.
Although treatments provided by chiropractors are mainly associated with the spine diversified approaches allow chiropractors to treat all regions of the body with great success including shoulders, hips and knees amongst many others.
