FAQs

What will happen when I visit a Chiropractor?

The first step is to get to know you, a thorough initial consultation incorporating history taking of complaints will be performed including chiropractic, functional, orthopedic and neurological tests to identify the exact cause of your problems. If the Chiropractor deems chiropractic treatment can help you then the findings of the consultation will be explained to you and treatment can begin. If other examinations or referrals are necessary then these will be arranged by the Chiropractor and staff.

Do I have to have X-rays?

Not all cases we see require X-rays. Quite often there isn’t the need for an X-ray to be requested and treatment can begin right away. If however it is deemed beneficial and necessary after your initial consultation for an x-ray to be requested then the various methods will be discussed with you.

What are the reasons to see a Chiropractor?

The reasons to see a chiropractor are to maintain and address pain levels that may be affecting and inhibiting your quality of life. Also visiting a chiropractor cannot just rid you of pain but can improve your day to day functioning and improve your overall optimal health.

Chiropractic is a non-invasive modality that does not include the use of drugs that regularly sees wide ranging health benefits. At our clinic we advocate visiting us not just for pain but to ensure that you spine is functioning as it should, very much like you would visit an optician for your eyes or dentist for teeth! Remember you spine is a pretty large structure and you only have one so look after it.

How many sessions will I need?

Until we see you it is hard to know for sure, in the same way it is hard for a mechanic to diagnose a car without seeing it and lifting the bonnet it is hard for Chiropractor to know exactly what is needed before seeing you for a consultation/examination. Recovery rates are affected by many variables including duration of problem, cause, age and lifestyle factors to name but a few. Once an initial consultation has taken place the Chiropractor will explain how long and how many sessions your treatment plan will likely consist of.

Does treatment hurt?

Treatments and adjustments typically do not hurt. Inflamed areas or tight muscles can obviously be painful but treatments are geared towards easing your pain and not creating more. Gentle, specific and tailored adjustments often ease problematic areas without aggravating further discomfort. Advice will also be given by the Chiropractor for methods you can use at home to ease pain.

Is Chiropractic Safe?

Chiropractic is very safe and has far fewer risks than many other more mainstream treatments including the use of pain killers and anti-inflammatory medications. Serious side effects of Chiropractic are very rare but these will be discussed with you by Chiropractor prior to your treatment

Can I come in when I’m not in pain?

Yes! When you have completed your treatment course and feel great we normally suggest you visit the clinic from time to time for a checkup or MOT if you will. It allows us to ensure you are still functioning as we want and to catch any problems that may be arising early enough and to prevent them becoming bigger problems. In a similar way as we do not wait for our car to break down before we take it for an MOT or for our teeth to be completely rotten before we have a checkup at the dentist we recommend a periodic visit to tackle modern day stressors and to keep you moving well and feeling fab.
